Obituary of Jo Black
Caroline Joan Black - “Jo” passed away on September 5, 2023, at the age of 83. Her loving family and devoted husband were with her at her passing.
Jo was born on December 26, 1939, in Rio Tinto, Nevada to Harold and Gail Kennedy. At the age of three she moved to Mountain Home, Idaho. She attended and graduated from Mountain Home Schools. During her time in high school, she was a majorette, band member and cheerleader.
Jo met her husband of 66 years when she was eight years old. Frank used to call her “the girl next door.” They started dating in high school and were married after graduation. They then moved to Moscow, Idaho where Frank attended college. During this time Jo gave birth to her two sons, Randy and Michael. After college they moved to multiple bases where Kevin and Shelley joined the family.
Frank’s military career took them to multiple states and abroad. In every stop along the way she would share her love of the Lord and enrich lives around them. After his career Jo and Frank returned to Mountain Home.
During their retired years they built a cabin in Featherville where they spent time with their family, grandkids and great grandkids. It was a place for making memories and sharing stories around the campfire. They also enjoyed vacations to the Oregon Coast and Hawaii. Their favorite times were with their family.
The one thing Jo would want to share with you is her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She spent many hours in devotion, learning, and prayer. She studied with The Reverend John Sandford and was a Christian counselor as part of his ministry team. Her gift of counseling brought people to her and took her as far as Australia to minister to the people there.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Fred Kennedy, her sister Julie Garcia, and great-grandson Gavin Black. She is survived by her husband, Frank, Sons, Randy (Debbie), Michael (Lisa), Kevin (Lani) and daughter, Shelley (John) Greco. Her grandchildren, Jason (Ellie), Jared (Amanda), Ryan, Kristina, Madison, Katy, Kimi, Nathan, Joshua, Kennedy, John, and Vivienne. Great-grandchildren Gianna, Felix, and Sam.
Services will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Rost Funeral Home, 500 N. 18th E., Mountain Home, Idaho. The viewing will be from 10:30 to 11:30 with the service beginning at 11:30. The interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery immediately following.
