Obituary of James Douglas Sanders
On September 29, 1952, Bill and Mae Sanders made a rush trip to Boise. At home waiting was Bill Jr. (Willy). They returned to Mountain Home with the new baby. James Douglas Sanders known as Jim and later on as Jimmy to his wife.
Jim grew up in Mountain Home, graduating from Mountain Home High School in 1970 and working for Al Hofer and Harlyn Marks at the Sinclair Station that now houses Lucky Perk. He attended BSU for a year and a half and then went to work in his parents’ insurance agency. He was an agent for Farmers Insurance for 41 years. He then left Farmers and re-opened as Silver Key Insurance, an independent agency.
Jim married Deb on December 6, 1974. He chose that date, because he could get married late in the year and still get the married tax deduction. They have been married for 48 years.
They had a baby girl in the form of a 15-year-old princess in 1996. Jim taught Tana how to take care of new cars, extrication calls and took her into the office as a file girl.
Jim enjoyed classic cars, and had several over the years including a stock 1963 Ford Fairlane and a custom 1970 Ford Pickup. Jim and Deb enjoyed trips to car shows and rod runs. One of their runs took them to Lincoln City, Oregon where they fell in love with the ocean. They came back to the ocean whenever they could.
Jim enjoyed people and treated his friends the same as his family. He always enjoyed cooking for them. He believed in treating everyone with equality and respect. If you need anything, and Jim had it, or could get it, it was yours, didn’t matter if it was a “come get me” or “I can’t afford it.”
Jim always has been a God fearing man, just not a religious one. When he came to The Rock he found his home. Pastor Andrew taught him what church can really be. Jim loves The Rock. It is there he solidified his relationship with God.
After 2 ½ years of living with Covid, his broken body was healed. For the first time in 2 ½ years Jim was able to lay on his side, could breathe easily and had no look of pain on his face. On February 28, 2023, he went home, secure in the knowledge that he was going to be with his family, his friends and his God, who were waiting for him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM, on Wednesday March 8, 2023, at The Rock Event Center, located at 977 Air Base Rd. In Mtn Home. Cremation under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
