Kenneth Ray Davis

Kenny Ray Davis, 66, of Bruneau, Idaho passed away on September 2, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, on Friday, September 17, 2021, at the American Legion Hall, in Bruneau. Arrangements are under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Ken was born in Caldwell on February 17, 1955 to Don and Pat (Adams) Davis. Ken was the baby of the family, following his sister Judy and brother Bill. Growing up Ken was always so little. His nickname was “Runt”. Ken wore suspenders because his mom couldn’t get pants small enough to fit. He slept in a crib until he was six years old! As a boy, Ken loved standing on his head; a trait he passed on to his grandson Rigo Lewis. Ken’s sister and cousins have fond memories of building haystack forts and riding his Honda 90 around the farm. Ken enjoyed playing football while he attended Rimrock High School, graduating in 1974.

At Rimrock, Ken met Debbie Bertsch and they later married on April 11, 1977. Ken and Debbie lived and worked on the family farm and ranch, Bruneau Cattle Company. They were blessed with two beautiful girls, Sarah Lynn (Carothers) and Cassie Rae (Farfan). Ken loved living and working on the family farm. His girls have great memories of riding in the water truck in the winter taking water to the cows, riding in the swather and irrigating in the summer. Ken loved playing cards with his girls and grandkids, teaching them the best ways to cheat at Uno and Skip-Bo.

In 1990, while helping move cows in the hills Ken’s horse fell in a badger hole, leaving him with physical challenges that changed his life drastically! Ken never let his injuries slow him down; he worked very hard to gain strength and recover mobility. After the accident he went to work at the Mountain Home Air Force Base. There he met some of his very best friends. After 10 years at the base, Ken retired. He then enjoyed trapping gophers for farmer friends and neighbors. He loved taking side by side rides with his cousin Dani Lee and friends. For some years Ken drove rafters down the Bruneau Canyon to drop them off for their raft trips. Ken also loved attending his grandkid’s sports games and hanging out with them at family gatherings.

Ken always had a love for animals. His two favorite dogs, Grunt and Jax were very loyal and well loved.  You rarely saw Ken without Jax sitting next to him in the side by side, going for their nightly rides around town and stopping to visit with friends.

Ken never missed a birthday! He had the best taste in birthday cards, always finding something to give you a chuckle. The last few years Ken was full of laughs thanks to his special friend, Renee, who is now considered family; she brought so much joy to Ken’s life.

Ken loved his community and gave generously to 4-H and the Bruneau Booster Club. The people of Bruneau have always been there for Ken too; the Community Church, Bruneau and Grand View EMTs, the Bruneau Fire Department, neighbors and friends are all so appreciated by Ken’s family.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents Don (2010) and Pat (2021), his brothers Bill (1972) and Phil Luman (2021).

Ken will be greatly missed by his sister Judy (Bill) McBride; his daughters Sarah (Jeff) Carothers and Cassie (Rigo) Farfan; his seven grandchildren Makayla, Trevor and Wade Carothers; Alyssa Rodriguez; Olivia, Adrian and Rigo Lewis Farfan; his nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Donation can be made to the Bruneau Community Church or the Bruneau QRU.
